Well monitors do have higher resolution. A 24" monitor has a resolution of 1920x1200 (16:10). A 1080p tv has a 1920x1080 (16:9) resolution. Bluray, HD tv, upconvert dvd, etc, have an output of 1920x1080, so you will have some black bars on top and bottome. Bigger monitors have larger resolutions, like a 30" monitor has a res. of 2560x1600. Monitors don't upscale. So connecting a BD player to a monitor won't make it look better, resolution wise. Contrast ratio, display type and other features are another story.
