93 Caravan why is my brake caliper rattling?
On rough pavement there is a rattling. Is it normal for a brake caliper base to expand to the point that the pads float enough to rattle or is it a rattle in the strut?
When brake is on no rattle. The shop said caliper base is not original and proceeded to adjust pad by putting a piece of stainless pipe clamp on base to tighten up pads. Still there is noise over bumps, no rattle when brakes applied Could it be the struts? They sound OK but it is difficult to load them by pushing down on vehicle., Thanks
The caliper floater pins and bushings should be looked at as well as the caliper bracket. The caliper itself may have banged-out floater pin holes. MOPARS use cheap cast aluminum brake calipers. Cast iron remanufactured replacements are far better. Sway bar bushings, sway bar end-links and upper strurt mount bearings may be missing the roller balls. When have the struts been replaced? They start to degrade @ 60,000 miles. If you have over 100,000 miles on them they should automaticly be replaced with KYB units from Carquest or autopartswarehouse.com
